Community Development Network is proud to launch our latest project to promote menstrual hygiene and girls’ education in Cameroon in collaboration with Menstrual Hygiene Day. We have partnered with manufacturers, educators, and local organizations to provide free menstrual cups and education to 650 girls and young women.
We will be distributing these supplies in workshops starting May 28th in Douala, Cameroon. We are also raising money with the help of our partner Project Dot and collaborating with local reusable pad manufacturers to provide reusable pads and washable underwear. It is important to us that we accommodate different preferences with regards to sustainable menstrual hygiene products. We plan to distribute menstrual hygiene products on an on-going basis with further funding and donations.
With the help of many international partners, we have planned a series of workshops to distribute menstrual hygiene supplies and provide a thorough education on menstruation, how to use the different products safely and hygienically, and important information on reproductive and sexual health. We have coordinated these workshops regionally through our partnership with Mother of Hope Cameroon, Hope Foundation, and Web & Development Foundation.
We received generous donations from our menstrual cup manufacturer partners LENA and Yuuki, who have also supported us in creating the educational materials for our workshops. The educational content was further developed through collaboration with URIDU, a non-profit that seeks to empower women with practical knowledge regardless of literacy or access. We are very proud to be working with such generous and passionate partners to make this project a reality.
To kick off our first workshops and to show support for Menstrual Hygiene Day, we are asking our friends and supporters to participate in social media. We have created a printable template to write messages about menstrual health, which you can download here. We invite you to share a selfie of you with your message on social media under #MenstrualHygieneDay. You can also e-mail your photos to firstname.lastname@example.org and we will put them on our Facebook and Twitter pages. Let’s show that people from around the world stand in support of menstrual hygiene as a human right.
We are continuing to raise money to support our ongoing efforts. Our goal is to empower girls in Cameroon to stay in school and realize their full potential. Support us by donating to our fundraising campaign at BetterPlace.org.
